Day 31: Baked Pumpkin Donuts

Welcome to Day 31 of "31 Days of Pinterest"!

Today was one of my favorites! Maybe because it turned out...unlike "Day 3" or "Day 18"? :)

There were 6. But I took care of that!

Yum right? Can you go wrong in the fall with cinnamon-sugar covered baked pumpkin donuts? With some apple cider or milk?

Place the following in a mixing bowl:

1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups pumpkin purée (canned pumpkin)
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice, or 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon plus a heaping 1/4 teaspoon each ground nutmeg and ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

Beat everything together until smooth.

Add 1 3/4 cups + 2 tsp of flour, stirring just until smooth.

Fill the wells of the doughnut pans about 3/4 full, using a 1/4 cup works.

If you’re making muffins, fill each well about 3/4 full; the recipe makes about 15, so you’ll need to bake in two batches (unless you have two muffin pans).

Bake the doughnuts for 15 to 18 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted into the center of one comes out clean. If you’re using self-rising flour, bake for the longer amount of time.

Remove the doughnuts from the oven, and after about 5 minutes, loosen their edges, and transfer them to a rack to cool.

While the doughnuts are still warm (but no longer fragile), gently shake them in a bag with cinnamon-sugar. Or better yet, pumpkin-spice sugar, made by combining the aforementioned pumpkin pie spice (or substitute) with granulated sugar.

Day 29: Fabric acorns

So maybe some of you get magazines in the mail.  Maybe some of you get your secret amazon orders...;)

 I get this:

You know have a problem when you get excited that your parents have sent you a box of acorn tops thru the mail.  I'm sure we have them here in MN, but it's funnier now that I know how they were collected.  My mom and her friend would stuff them in their pockets when they walked in the morning.  lol.  Hope this does you proud mom!  :)

I had found this cute blog and they had done this little craft.

You need:  acorn top, small fabric circle sized according to how large or small your acorn top is, needle, thread, stuffing, hot glue gun
Sew a running stitch around your circle, stuff with stuffing, pull thread to cinch closed and knot, use hot glue around the entire acorn top, attach.  For the burlap, I didn’t sew the top at all.  I simply filled the circle with stuffing, pinched everything tight, and glued the acorn top in place.
Here is the final result of the couple that I did.  I didn't sew them at all.  I just twisted, smashed and glued. I think they would be super cute on the T-Day table!  I also think they look like macaroons....;)

I love me some squishy acorns.

Day 28: Cresent roll mummies

I'm about to share something with you all.

When this comes out of the oven at Christmas, you better be next to the oven ready or you won't get any. They are that hot...as in the "it" appetizer. We don't make them look like mummies though, no time for fooling around when it comes to these.

You will need cocktail weenies (or a vegetarian alternative), dough and mustard.

Unroll and take a long strip of cresent dough and wrap the weenie to look like a mummie.

If you don't want the mummy look, just cut triangles out and wrap away.

Super hard right!

You can then add little dots of mustard for eyes if you want. Or have a bowl of mustard on the side for double dipping.

Day 26: DIY sharpie mug

I found this idea on Pinterst and it lead back to one of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess.

It's a blog written by 2 sisters.

And it's awesome.

 

I can't draw. So just expect that below. :)

 

I have some fav mugs from the Dollar Tree. White, simple, unexpecting...whahaha

It didn't see the sharpie coming.

 

Hello new "Cup 'O Wakey"!

Put it on a baking sheet for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

And while you are waiting 30 minutes for your mug to come out of the oven...

open the package of Trader Joes Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cupcakes.

Hand wash your mug! And hope it doesn't come off, heehee.

Day 25: Sick day sanity saver!!!

Day 25 of 31 Days of Pinterest is all about Kleenex.

It's a brilliant idea and I can't wait to get a cold to use this idea.

This one, you will thank me for. For some reason, when we get a cold, we lose the ability to put the kleenex in the garbage. You lay on the couch, crumple the kleenex up and put it on the table. Nice.

Not any more! Look at the next picture.

One is empty and you put your Kleenex in it!

Brilliant right? May your next cold be not so messy..lol

Day 24: The Book Jar

As we are moving toward the end of this 31 day adventure, I am realizing how much I'm learning!  I'll go into that when it's all done...I'll just say, it's been challenging for me!

I had to go back to the Pinterest DIY board that I keep for some inspiration.  Sometimes I have an idea of something I've seen, but might not have it pinned yet.  But this one I had pinned.  I like the before A-lot.

 Here is the "Book Jar".

I think the instructions are simple.

 You need a magazine, book, a kid's drawing, etc.  

You also need Mod Podge, a brush and a glass vessel.  lol. 

 Yeah, I went there.  

Brush the Mod Podge on the vase, a thin coat.  Then put your paper on.  Then brush the top of the paper with Mod Podge.  Done.  

You can add more things like fabric, lace, etc. if you can't let it be.  Like someone I know.  ;)

Then plop in one of the white or cream candles that are collecting dust in your cupboard!

Day 22: DIY Bangle

Today is a simple diy craft!  It took me about a minute to make. 

 I've wanted to make a fabric bangle for a while (didn't I say that last week about something on Pinterest....how ironic  :).  If you want to watch how much I pin and don't do, follow me on Pinterest.

You need fabric, glue, scissors and a bracelet.  

You can use fabric from anything.  

An old shirt, scrap fabric, some old item of your kid's clothes...anything.

Cut strips of the fabric.  You will need a couple of strips about 12 inches long.

Put some glue on the inside of the bracelet and start wrapping.

When you get to the end of a strip, glue it to the inside of the bracelet.  Then start the new piece right over it on the inside.  This is not a perfection project!

  I glued at the beginning and at the end.  

Easy peasy!

Day 19: Questions to ask your kids

Have you every seen "Kids Say The Darnedest Things?" It was the one that Bill Cosby hosted and ask kids random questions? It reminds me of sitting in my friend's classroom while she teaches. I love listening to the things the kids say. Lol.

Day 18: Fruit Roll-Ups

Welcome to Day 18 of my 31 days of Pinterest projects. Here is an example of me keepin' it real.

Oh wait, I always do. ;)

Let's pretend that the picture below is my final picture.

Because this DIY was an epic

Instructions

Cut up your strawberries

Stew them in water. Add a bit of lemon juice. They will get super mushy.

Put them in your food processor or blender for a couple minutes.

Put Saran Wrap on a baking sheet and brush it with olive oil.

This is the end of my pics.

Preheat the oven to 170. Yes, 170.

Pour the berries onto the sheet and put it in the oven.

I would like to tell you know that this next part is not a joke.

Set your timer for 6-8 HOURS.

I need to pick shorter projects or actually read them!

My fruit leather never set. It was just liquid. :(

Day 17: Wall Nail Letter

I laugh because sometimes I don't look back at the Pinterest pin until I'm done with my try.  

Maybe I have something in my head and don't "need" the directions. 

This is an good example.  

Maybe some of you measure when nailing into the wall, maybe some of you don't.

Maybe I don't too.

Here is my version...

Here is the wall we are working with.  It was feeling lonely.  ;)

You will need yarn (I switched to twine half way thru, a hammer, nails, a level, and measuring tape.

I needed to start going up the wall more, filling in more space.  I don't have a plan with this wall, but to just keep adding to it.  I will probably laugh in disgust in years when it looks like a dusty wall with memories of a  great idea!

Just like tight rolling or something.

Measure where you want the nails to go.  Nail away.  This is very hard because I should be telling you how to get the best outcome.  I call this winging it planning. 

I tied a small knot and just hooked it on the first nail that you want to start with.

This is the simple twine K that I ended up with.  I like her. 

 Can you see her up there?

You could do this anywhere. 
On a small part of a wall that needs a little something. 
Maybe put an old frame over it.

Day 15: Scrabble picture

I have been looking at GW (Goodwill) for like 2 years for a Scrabble game.
Yes I know I can get one at Target.  But I know I can find it at GW...along with the size 8 cowboy boots that don't exist.

Then, Friday, at a garage sale....BAM!  A scrabble game. 

I have seen things like this that people do and have wanted to do one myself.

You will need:

A scrabble game

    Glue

       Fabric or scrap paper

        A frame

Cover the back of the frame with fabric or paper.

Choose a word that you want to display.  

I chose Family.

  

 Just a dot of glue on the back of each letter will do it!  

Now I have the focus of my life right in front of me on my desk. :)
